"Gender equality is one of
the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals. But how are we doing so far? While social and political activism are well
known parts of the solution, but can entrepreneurs and innovators who care
deeply about equality, plus economic and social justice also play a role?Welcome to the world of
entrepreneurial feminism.
Entrepreneurial feminism,
developed from social feminism, is a theory that explains how feminist values
are enacted through the venture creation and growth process to drive gender
equity and equality in economic, political and social realms. Essentially, entrepreneurial
feminists enter commercial markets to create financially sustainable
organizations and inspire social change, based feminist values such as agency,
interindependence, and generosity. Feminist
business practice goes well beyond the basic tenants of the well publicized
corporate diversity and inclusion dialogue—practitioners work to leverage
feminist theory and thought leadership to model how an enterprise works when guided
by a feminist lens.
In this session,
participants will learn about the feminist economy, the growing entrepreneurial
intersectional feminist community, it’s roots, aims, what feminist leadership
and business practice looks like in action, why and be quickly introduced to
some of the tools/programs and ideas out there.
If you are a feminist (any gender can be a feminist), and have been
wondering how to apply your feminist values at work or in the design and growth
of a new venture, this session will provide you with an overview of some of the
core themes, tools and conversations happening in the community."
