To introduce her talk, Petra wrote:

Gender equality is one of the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals and an economic strategy supported by Canada’s current Government. While social and political activism are well known elements of a gender equality strategy, the role that entrepreneurs and innovators might play as society pursues these goals is only now being considered. Can leaders who care deeply about economic and social justice use business to end inequality and create a world where everyone flourishes?
Welcome to the community of entrepreneurial feminism. Entrepreneurial feminism is a set of theories that explain how feminist values, enacted as we create and grow ventures, can drive gender equity and human equality in economic, political and social realms. Essentially, entrepreneurial feminists create financially sustainable yet post capitalist (in many ways) commercial businesses that use feminist values such as agency, interindependence, care and generosity to inspire new products, new markets, and new practices. Feminist business practices go well beyond the basic tenets of the conventional corporate diversity and inclusion dialogue. Entrepreneurial feminists combine feminist theory and thought leadership with entrepreneurial tools and mindsets to create businesses that are financially successful because they are centered on feminist values. In this session, participants will learn what feminist enterprise practice looks like. They’ll learn straightforward, effective ways to practice their values as they build their businesses.
If you are a feminist (any gender can be a feminist), and have been wondering how to apply your feminist values at work or in the design and growth of a new venture, this
session will provide you with an overview of some of the core themes, tools and conversations happening in the community."
